Infrastructure Engineer – Deno Land

2026 – Present · Remote

Deno Deploy is a serverless platform for hosting JavaScript/TypeScript applications on globally distributed infrastructure, with integrated builds, managed data services, and first-class OpenTelemetry observability. I co-authored the implementation of an internal, globally distributed key-value store for deployment state, serving high-throughput, low-latency requests on cost-efficient nodes. Post-launch, I've extended and stabilized the platform through feature work, bug fixes, and reliability improvements across the control plane.

Fullstack Developer – BitFashioned

2024 – 2025 · Remote

BitFashioned is a startup focused on cryptographic solutions and applications. I was the lead developer of my department and the main author of the code in production, developing research cryptographic protocols in Rust, Rust backends, some frontend work with SolidJS, and also maintaining the AWS infrastructure. The two projects I built from scratch – zanzibar and gotcha – are described in the Projects section below.

Fullstack Developer – Critical TechWorks

2022 – 2024 · Hybrid

CTW is a company that worked exclusively for BMW. I engineered the audio stack for the head unit of next-generation BMW cars, developing a hardware abstraction layer, an Android service, and an Android audio settings application that exercised the full breadth of AOSP and the audio domain. I also drove a Rust initiative to introduce Rust into C++ codebases, presenting workshops to my team and others.

Projects

dotdev – this site

2026 – Present · github.com/tcerqueira/dotdev

The site you're looking at right now. A personal website hosted on Cloudflare Pages and written entirely in Rust – statically generated with Leptos and hydrated into an interactive frontend through WASM, all skinned as a Windows XP desktop.

Lox interpreter

2025 – Present · github.com/tcerqueira/lorax

Lox is a didactic programming language from the book “Crafting Interpreters” by Robert Nystrom. The book teaches compilers and interpreters using Java and C, so I'm rewriting it in Rust for the sole purpose of having fun and learning more about compilers.

Gotcha

Gotcha is a captcha alternative powered by Rust, SolidJS and PostgreSQL. Website developers embed the widget in their site and it connects to a Rust server running on AWS Lambda. The server analyses requests based on website interactions, proof of work, and browser fingerprinting. I also built a Next.js dashboard to manage API keys and configuration for the widget.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a project that aimed to evaluate the viability of a novel cryptographic paper for Worldcoin private iris comparisons. Coming from very little cryptography background, it was challenging and fun to implement the paper's algorithm. I faced two big challenges: the huge data sizes and the (de)serialization costs. I squeezed every inch of performance I could from a software perspective and proposed algorithmic optimizations.

susync

2023 – Present · crates.io/crates/susync

A tiny pet project I started while learning Rust. I began it because I needed to bridge C++ callback APIs to async Rust, and the ecosystem lacked an alternative that was runtime-agnostic and allowed futures to race.

Data glove – Master's thesis

2022

I developed, from the ground up, a data glove capable of tracking hand pose in real time with high precision. I built the prototype from a casual glove fitted with sensors, and wrote the microcontroller firmware to acquire and stream data to a simulation I built in Unity. (Final grade: 17/20)
